Super easy foot spa at home
When was the last time you showed some love to your feet? We usually forget to take proper care of our feet unless we experience a problem. However, pampering your feet is very essential to keep them in good condition.
Why Foot Care is Important
- Regular care of your feet helps early detection of fungal infections, bunions, corns and similar other signs at initial stage and hence, you can treat them before they start causing trouble
- Cutting, clipping and cleaning of toenails avoid their inward growth and eliminates dirt as well as bacterial infections and bad odour
- It also helps prevent dryness and cracking of heels.
Importance of Exfoliating Feet
Exfoliating your feet is a must – I do recommend doing it daily as it prevents formation of painful corns or bunions. It also encourages growth of new cells and keeps your feet smooth and helps get rid of sun tan.
Tip: Keep a hard bristle brush in the shower and scrub your feet for a few minutes every day.
A great way to take care of your feet is to do a mini foot spa at home. Most of us get caught up in our daily chores and do not get adequate time to step out for a spa or a pedicure. Procedure Involved in Home Foot Spa
Now, let us look on different steps involved in foot spa or pedicure at home.
Trimming of Nails-
You have to start with the foot spa by applying a nail polish remover to remove nail polish from the toenails and then, cutting it in the required manner. You may soften nails by applying a cuticle cream and finally file the nails to get the required shape.
Soaking of Foot-
Prepare your foot soak in the bucket by dissolving a small amount of soap / shampoo in lukewarm water along with some essential oils and an oil of your choice. You can also add some Epsom salt to relieve any aches or soreness. Soak your feet and relax for about 10 minutes. This helps in reduction of inflammation and pain largely. In addition, it is helpful in removing dirt and sweat.
Once your skin is soft, dry them out on the towel.
Exfoliation-
Exfoliation is the next step. To do this, you should use a brush or a pumice stone to scrub your heels, ankles and side areas of the heel gently – focus on any existing corns or. Once you complete the procedure for both feet, you can use a home-made foot scrub to further exfoliate. Here’s a recipe that I recommend: DIY body scrub i.e. banana sugar foot scrub
You can exfoliate till your calves and leave it on for about 5 minutes as this also works as a mask.
Rinse this off with lukewarm water.
Moisturize and Massage-
Massage your feet for some more pampering. I love using our natural Shea butter or the Grapefruit & Ylang Ylang Body butter. If you have stubborn cracked heel, you can try this simple remedy to treat it. Wear a pair of socks for a few hours to allow the butter / moisturizer to soak into your skin.
And that’s it!
Easy no?
It’s simple and quick and it will ensure that your feet stay in a good condition for a long time.
